    How to Apply

Note: 2026 applications open on February 15, 2026.

Make sure to read all the information before you start the application process.

If we accept your application, we’ll send you an email confirming your acceptance. The email will include the link to pay your tuition and housing deposit. Participants will receive a refund of the housing deposit within 3 months after the program end date; otherwise, the housing deposit is non-refundable if a participant withdraws from the program after the payment.

You will receive a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) AFTER we have received your tuition and housing deposit payment.

First thing first. Apply for your passport if you don’t have a valid one yet. It takes time to receive your new passport!

Once you have your valid passport, find out what kind of travel documents you will need to enter Canada and submit your visa application as soon as you receive your Letter of Acceptance, as processing time may take longer than you expect. Find out the current visitor visa processing times here. It will depend on the country of where you are applying from, not the country of your citizenship.

If you are using an agency, please contact the agency for your visa application. The service fee will be directly charged by the agency. Please note that any agency is independent from UBC, and the university does not assume any responsibility for the cost, services, advice, or outcomes provided by the agency.

Please inform us as soon as you obtain your Canadian visa. We will email you the link for paying the Program Service Fee for your stay at UBC. After receiving your payment, we will confirm accommodation, airport pickup, field trips and other services for you.

Complete and submit your UBC Forestry Summer Institute Consent Forms. All students below 19 years of age are required to have a parent or guardian complete and sign the forms.

    The consent forms include:

    • Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks
    • Expectations of Conduct
    • Residence Code of Conduct and Policies
    • Consent to Use of Image
    • Medical Emergencies

Before arrival, students will receive a comprehensive program guide and regular pre-departure communications with step-by-step instructions on completing required consent forms, travel preparation, joining the UBC 2026 FSI WeChat group, housing address details, classroom information, arrival procedures and airport pick-up, and SIM card set-up to ensure a smooth transition to Vancouver.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2026 UBC Forestry Summer Institute!
